Faction Comparison: Which Should You Pick?

The three factions of Ashes of the Singularity II compared side by side: leaders, philosophy, enemies and which one to pick first.

Quick Answer: Which Faction Should You Pick First?

Pick the United Earth Forces first — the single-player campaign is built around leading humanity as a UEF Commanding Officer, so it is the most guided way to learn the game. Pick the Post-Human Coalition if you want to play the pragmatic empire-builders, and the AI Substrate if you want the perspective of the AI that started it all. All three field unique units and strategies.

How to Choose by Playstyle

  • Story-first players: United Earth Forces — the campaign narrative follows humanity's fight for survival and restoration.
  • Empire-and-infrastructure players: Post-Human Coalition — a faction defined by massive engineered capability and long-term plans.
  • Map-control and influence players: AI Substrate — an overwhelming networked intelligence playing the long game across whole systems.
This comparison is grounded in the official faction descriptions from the developer. Head-to-head balance notes arrive after launch — balance claims made before day one would be speculation, and this site does not speculate.

What the Comparison Does Not Cover Yet

Three things are deliberately missing from this page at launch: unit-by-unit strength comparisons, competitive tier placements, and faction win rates. None of those can exist before the player base has played — the developer's own description promises that each faction has unique units, strategies and philosophies, but how those balance against each other is a question the games themselves answer, not the marketing copy. This page gains a matchups section as soon as verified results exist, and the per-faction guides gain their strategy sections in the same pass. What the official material does establish — leadership, mission statements, worldview and campaign roles — is covered above and will not change with patches.
